The backing track: Katy Perry's 2010 pop anthem 'Firework,' with the song's 'Boom, boom, boom' lyrics timed to the airstrike hits in the footage.
Perry responded Saturday on X. 'I am deeply appalled and angry to see 'Firework' used on the @WhiteHouse TikTok account as a backing track for video footage of military strikes,' she wrote. 'I did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it.'
The singer framed the dispute in artistic terms. 'I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments,' Perry said. 'To see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponized to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for. My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare.'
Perry is not the first artist to object. According to Breitbart News, pop singer Olivia Rodrigo said last month she was 'enraged' after the White House used her song 'All-American Bitch' in an ICE video. The pattern is consistent: the administration pairs high-recognition pop tracks with its viral content; the artists, almost uniformly critics of the Trump presidency, push back publicly.

The rollout added the Department of Energy, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies to the platform.
Perry has been a consistent political opponent of President Trump, having endorsed Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris in successive presidential cycles. In January she urged her 195 million Instagram followers to 'turn anger into action' following the shooting death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, posting what Breitbart described as anti-ICE content.
