MoonPay announced Monday that it has launched PayBox, its AI-enabled payment and wallet tool, inside Grok, the native chatbot built into X. The service is available globally and lets users carry out crypto transactions across multiple blockchain networks directly through the chat interface.
"Grok prepares the transaction. The user approves it with a passkey. The money moves," MoonPay said in a press release.
The integration also connects users to Kamino, a Solana-based lending platform, allowing them to earn yield on USDC, the dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle. Beyond crypto, PayBox lets Grok users ask the bot to handle non-financial tasks such as booking flights or restaurant reservations.
The Grok launch follows a MoonPay feature, added days earlier, that lets eligible users manage crypto loans and deposits through ChatGPT or Claude. That earlier integration is limited to users outside the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and Australia. In July, MoonPay introduced a platform letting businesses and institutions trade and move digital assets across more than 200 blockchain networks. Five months before that, the company released developer tools letting AI agents independently manage wallets and trade crypto on their own.
The rollout fits a two-year pattern across payments and crypto companies, including Coinbase, Stripe, Visa and Mastercard, all of which have built tools letting users delegate financial tasks, from small online payments to full crypto transfers, to AI agents. Coinbase's x402 protocol lets agents pay for online services with stablecoins. Stripe's Agentic Commerce Suite gives businesses tools to sell through AI agents. Circle's Agent Stack lets agents hold and spend USDC within preset rules. Visa's Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard's Agent Pay both let verified AI agents shop and pay using tokenized credentials instead of card numbers.
X owner Elon Musk co-founded PayPal and has long pushed to expand the use of crypto and digital money, a history that makes the Grok integration a logical extension of the platform's ambitions rather than a surprise.
The numbers come first: more than 200 blockchain networks, a stablecoin yield product, and a chatbot now wired to move real money on a passkey approval. That is agentic commerce moving from pitch decks to production, and it is happening largely outside the reach of the regulators who spent the last several years trying to write rules for an industry that keeps shipping faster than Washington can legislate.
For the American saver, the appeal is straightforward: yield on a dollar-pegged asset, executed without a bank intermediary, priced and settled in minutes instead of days. Capital rewards clear rules, and MoonPay's bet is that a chatbot with a passkey can offer clearer, faster rules than a legacy financial system still catching up to what a smartphone — let alone an AI agent — can already do. The market, not a regulator, will decide whether that bet pays off.
