Ledgebrook has raised a $200 million financing round co-led by Allianz X and Rockefeller Capital Management, according to the company. The deal values the Boston-based AI-native specialty insurance platform at $2.6 billion after the investment.

Founder and CEO Gage Caligaris said the round gives the company more room to grow. Ledgebrook was founded in 2022 and provides insurance for midsized businesses with complex or hard-to-place risks. It sells exclusively through wholesale brokers and offers coverage including general liability and professional liability.

The company said its technology helps underwriters assess risks and decide what to charge. It said it can often provide quotes in hours rather than weeks.

Ledgebrook operates in the excess and surplus, or E&S, market. That is the segment for risks standard insurers will not take. Caligaris put the market at $143 billion in premiums last year, growing about 10%. He said average policy size at Ledgebrook is 'well over' $100,000, and some run into the millions.

Caligaris said the company has faced the usual trust barrier in insurance. Reinsurers, he said, are careful about whom they hand the pen. He described the business as one where reputation matters a lot.

The founder also said the company had been cautious about publicity while it relied on outside structures. Ledgebrook initially operated as a managing general agent. Caligaris said that meant the firm did '95% of the work, but the money sits elsewhere.'

Ledgebrook now has its own insurance carrier, which received an A− financial strength rating from AM Best in August 2026. Caligaris said that gives the company greater operational independence. He also said he expects Ledgebrook to surpass $1 billion in cumulative written premiums within four to six weeks.

Allianz spent three months examining the business before investing, Caligaris said. He said Allianz X contributed to the $200 million equity round, while Allianz Re separately agreed to a multi-year commitment providing reinsurance capacity.

The numbers come first. A company built around faster underwriting and lower friction has now won a valuation that puts it firmly in the unicorn class. That is what happens when private capital backs a model that promises speed, scale, and a cleaner path through a market where trust still rules.

For the broader insurance market, the message is straightforward. Capital rewards clear rules and proven execution. When a company can quote faster, write more premium, and secure outside backing, the market notices. Bureaucracy does not move that quickly. Free enterprise does.
